statement on House passage of H.r. 2, the agriculture & nutrition act of 2018

June 21, 2018

The American Association of Crop Insurers (AACI), the Crop Insurance Professionals Association (CIPA), the Crop Insurance Reinsurance Bureau (CIRB), the National Crop Insurance Services (NCIS), the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America (IIABA), and the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA) today issued the following joint statement in response to the U.S. House of Representatives passing H.R. 2, the Agriculture and Nutrition Act of 2018 in a 213-211 vote.

“We are grateful for the perseverance and leadership of Chairman Conaway and commend him and his House colleagues who worked to advance a farm bill across the House floor. Specifically, we appreciate their unwavering commitment to protect crop insurance from harmful amendments that would have jeopardized this important risk management tool for our farmers and ranchers. Last month, Chairman Conaway, Ranking Member Peterson and House members sent a strong message of support to America’s farmers and ranchers who are enduring a depressed farm economy by rejecting — by a decisive vote of 34-380 — an amendment that would have eliminated crop insurance. We will continue to work with members in both the House and Senate to ensure that strong crop insurance is maintained in the next farm bill.”
